7th Grade

 7th grade is soooooo much fun. The teachers are really nice. I was really nervious the first day but I met a lot of new friends.   I am in adv. math and it is really fun. The only weird new thing we do is you do not have the same classes with the same people.

I got really lucky and was put on a team with a lot of my friends from last year but don't think I did not met new people. My favorite part sooo far is getting to meet new people.  The worst part is the drama but you just have to know when to leave a place or stay. Are class periods are really long :( but all while they are still fun. I really hope you guys enjoy 7th grade as much as I do.

Summer time

Hey you guys how many of you are happy it is summer? I know I am because I love summe. And when it is summer there is always one thing that runs through my mind "At the end of this summer school again". So that is why I try to spend my summer in the best way I can.

I just went on vaction a like a week ago. I went to New York  to see Niagara Falls and New York City.
Niagara Falls was so amazing. There was soo much water going of the falls. And the water was clear.  My Dad was always making jokes when we were at the falls. He said he needed to find a boat so he could go boating.

Well I told you what sort of happened at Niagara Falls but now it is New York City's turn. In New York City I got to go downtown and by Time Square. That was so cool. My Mom,Bree,Bree's Mom and me went on the metro train and the subway. That was kinda freakie. Then we walked through Time Square. We went to the worlds biggest Apple Bee. And the biggest Toys R Us.  Then we went to the Statue of Librety and Ellis Island.

Relay For Life

Realy For Life is a walk for a cure. A cure for cancer. Many people die a year from fighting a vary hard battle, the battle against cancer. Realy For life collects money for finding a cure for cancer.  And ending the fight forever.

Well on this Saturday come down to Circleville High School and walk with us. I know Saturday is going to be hot but still come out of the house and walk. This walk is for finding a cure for cancer. My Grandma has lung cancer. She has had it since 2004. The docters said she would only live for 5 mounths and she has lived for 5 years. I hope you come down to the Realy For Life and walk.

Sixth grade at Laurelvillle Elementary !!!!!!!!

Can you believe it's summer all ready ? Well I can't thats for sure. This was my last year at Laurelville Elementary and can bet I'm going to miss it. I mean I went to school there since preschool. All the teachers were great. And I had probaly the best 8 years of my life there.

This is to all the furture sixth graders. Sixth grade was a blast. Last years fith graders all ready had Mrs. Griffey and Mrs. Cartee so you guys probaly know a little about them. So I am going to tell you about Mr. McGuire then Ms. Bowlby.

Mr. McGuire was so much fun. He is going to be your sixth grade L.A. teacher. In he's class we sing and type a lot. Beaware because you never know when he is going to take a grade on let's say a social studies writing project. Theres a lot more to know about Mr. McGuire but I don't want to spoil your sixth grade year.

Ms. Bowlby is by far one of the best math teachers ever. (so are the other math teachers at Lauerlvillle Elementary.) Ms. Bowlby of course is going to be your sixth grade math teachers. In her class we do a lot of board work and work from are book. Tip: know your multipulcation facts you will need to know them.
Like I said before I am going to stop there so I don't spoil your sixth grade year.

D.A.R.E Essay

   D.a.r.e is a fun activity that sixth graders get to do.  D.a.r.e is to keep kids off of drugs like tobacco,marijuana,alcohol etc.  Our D.a.r.e officer is Deputy Thomas.  There are three types of gateway drugs. D.a.r.e stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education.

     In D.a.r.e I learned that there are over 200 known poisons in tobacco. Also I learned that marijuana can cause cancer and brain problems. Did you know that many drugs people use now is found in your medicine cabinet like cold medicine,cleaning supplies,etc?  Alcohol damages every organ in your body.

    Cigarettes contain a substance called nicotine, nicotine causes addiction. Tobacco can affect your body devilment. It is illegal to sell tobacco to people under the age of 18 in the U.S.A. Something sad is that 3,000 non smokers die each year from second hand smoking.

     Marijuana users have a greater risk of cancer. A good thing is marijuana is illegal in the United States. People who smoke marijuana have more colds and upper respiratory problems. Tar is found in marijuana. Plus there is more tar in marijuana than tobacco.

     If you drink alcohol you are putting yourself and others in danger. You are not allowed to buy or drink if you under the age of  21. Alcohol can cause your body to slow down and lead to coma or death. Mixing alcohol and medicine is very dangerous. Beer, wine and liquor all contain about the same amount of alcohol per severing.

    In D.a.r.e we do a lot of fun stuff. Mr.Dip lip is a guy that chews tobacco. With Mr. Dip lip we seen what tobacco can do to your teeth and mouth. Then was The Jar of Tar. The Jar of Tar showed us how much tar there is in cigarettes. We also played The D.a.r.e Family Feud Game. During this game we had to answer questions about D.a.r.e and what we learned.

    Durgs are very dangerous. They cause you to act weird, they can make you harm other people and your self. These are all reasons I will not do drugs. You should all stay off drugs and never think about doing drugs.

New Moon

New Moon is the second book in The Twilight Saga. In New Moon Bella spends a lot of her time with Jacob Black. I don't want to tell you a lot about New Moon because I don't want to spoil it for all the people that are reading Twilight. I am going to tell you one thing New Moon is filled with action and suspense.

Should Endings be Happily Ever After?

I like books that end sad and gloomy. A lot of books I know of end happily ever after. But that gets boring and I hate it when you know what is going to happen in the end. Take Fairy Tale books for a example (not The Twilight Saga) they always start out bad then end in happily ever after. Then lets take Freak The Mighty for another example. It started out really good then at the end Freak dies.

I think that Freak The Mighty was a good book because of its ending. Why do I think this ? I like books that end in a bad way. When Freak died it left me thinking and I wanted to find out more but I could not because there was not another book so I had to think about was going to happen next.

Welcome to my blog. Mr. McGuire came up with a new way for the sixth graders to use their online book journals. I think having a blog is really weird but fun.

Grading Students' Blogs

   When you grade a blog you should always look for spelling mistakes. You should always look for spelling mistakes because when you are trying to read and you come along a word that is misspelled and you can't read it that takes away the fun of reading.

   Then you should look for punction mistakes.  mistakes can lead to a disaster. Lets just say you are reading a paragraph and someone has a comma instead of a period. It messes the paragraph all up.

           Grading Scale
A- To get a A  I think think everything should be spelled right and correct grammar.

B- to get a B I think you should only have maybe 2 mistakes.

C- to get a C you should only have 4 mistakes.

D - to get a D you should only have 7 mistakes.  

The Main Character in My Book

If I wrote a book, the main character's name would be Cliea. My book would  relate to Twilight but not really. Well anyways Cliea would fall in love with a werewolf instead of a vampire. Cliea would have short blonde hair. Cliea also loves animals and mythical creatures. Cliea is a 16 years old. Cliea drives a bright yellow Porsche.

Cliea has a sister named Rachael and as you know Cliea falls in with a werewolf.Well the werewolf Cliea falls in love with has a brother and Rachael falls in love with him. Cliea loves her whole family and Cliea gets really good grades.

Achievement Test

So many people get stressed out when it is time to start the Achievement Test. If you are one of those people just think and do the best you can. Most of the Achivement questions are easy because our wonderful teachers have already taught us so there is no need to worry. Yes I know we only have two and a half hours but that is enough time.

If you come to a problem or question and you are complety stuck go to the next one don't just sit there and do nothing I am sure that you will have enough time to come back and get that question done. If you are so worried about the test don't be but always make sure you get enough rest and you have breakfest before you do the test.

Also think last year we had to take four Achivement Test and this year we only had to take two so knowing that we only had to take two made me feel a lot better. I never get stressed when it comes to Achievement Test because I beleive in myself. When people get stressed the don't do as well because all that stress bulids up on top of their brain and kills almost everything they know.

Also I know some questions are hard but if they are to hard and you re read the question and re read it again and you skipped it and all that other good stuff and then you went back and tryed to do it but you still don't get it just guess you never know you might just get it right.

Laney From Larger Than Life Lara

We are reading a book called Larger Than Life Lara. The main character is Laney. Some things about Laney are ...

2. She has three older brothers Luke, Matt, and Robert
3. She lives in a small house
4. Laney shares a room with her dad
5. Her dad is a alcoholic

7. Laney hates to ride the bus so she walks home
8. Laney says bad stuff about Lara in her mind

11. She says Matt is the meanest of her brothers

How do you feel?

How do you all feel about reading? Myself I love to read but I hate it when Mr. McGuire stops reading what is the point in that he always stops at good parts. Do you feel the same way I do if so leave a comment if not still leave a comment I want your opinion.

Fake Reading

  If you are going to read at least don't fake read. If you fake read then stop because you are just sitting there doing nothing.  When you fake read you are missing out on really good books.  You are not fooling no one but your self. If you fake read sooner or later you are going to get caught.  If you try to read books higher than the book level you are supposed to be on it is harder to read. Then this causes you to fake read.

   Reading is a big part of your life and when you fake read you not learning anything new. Yea some books are harder to read than other books but that does not mean you have to fake read to read them. Just get a new book that is easier to read. Reading can get you into big jobs that pay a lot of money but when you fake read you will never get a job that pays good money. Fake reading is the worst thing you can do to a book. Books are supposed to be read not just flipped though or maybe not even touched. I am sure Max faked reading until he meet Freak or Kevin. Kevin tought Max how to read. Now Max likes reading.  You can see more about fake readind at The Reading Workshop. If you are a person that fake reads I hope stop and find a book you can read and not harder book

Gathering Blue

Gathering Blue is about a girl named Kira. Kira is a orphan with a twisted leg. The way it sounds Kira lives with some native people. Her dad was killed when he was out hunting. Her mother died from a sickness. So far Gathering Blue is a really good book but is really sad.

Cause and Effect

I am reading Nobody's There by Joan Lowery Nixon. In my book there is a girl named Abbie she sees her dad breaking up with her soon to be step mom and Abbie gets so mad she throws rocks though her dads ex girlfriends house. When Abbie did this her dads ex girlfriends roommate called the police. Abbie now has to spend most of her day's with a old lady. The old lady is really mean. Abbie has to drive the old lady everywhere.

Online Journal

1/22/09 - The Tale of Despereaux
I would persuade Despereuax to get the king to go down to the dungeon with him so the king see where the pathways and hideways are. Despereaux gives up way to easily he was in Pea's room for two mintues trying to get the king to go with him to find Pea. The king did not even give despereaux an answer to his question and Desperaux left the room . I mean Desperaux explained to the king his plan and wanted the king to go with him. once he got done with his "plan'' he left. Just like he went to his dad and The head Mouse was there he asked The Head Mouse to repent him and he walked out with no answer.

1/5/09 - Two Goals For 2009
GREAT GOAL!
My first goal for 2009 is to read more minutes . I would like to read at least 300 minutes every week. I think I could read more when i am at home. I would like to read more because I have only been reading around 200 minutes. I have a good grade but I would like to bring up my grade just a little bit.

12/17/08 - Ida B
The main problem my character faces is her mother has cancer. After Ida found out that her mother has cancer Ida has completely changed. Ida no longer talks to anybody. Ida does not talk to the trees. Ida is mad at her dad because he sold part of the farm and told Ida she has to go back to school. Ida found out that the people her dad sold part of the farm to had a girl that is in Ida's class. Ida found Clarie and her little brother by a tree Ida was sitting in. Ida jumped down out of the tree and yelled at Clarie and her little brother to leave and it was her land and they did not belong on it. The next day of school Ida sat on the stairs as always. This time Ms.W came and sat next to her. Ida asked Ms. W if she had ever done anything that she wish she had not.

12/15/08 - Sharing Online Journal With Parents
I thought that sharing the online journal with are parents was fun. My mom could not say much about the journals because my dad was being annoying. My mom said that she thought it was a good idea . She liked that you can get on your child's journal and see how they are doing. Another thing she liked was that you can always check out what your kid is reading.

112/10/08 - Ida B
One main thing that happened today was that Ida finely got over not talking to anybody. Ida's teacher asked Ida if she wanted to read Alexadra Potemkin And The Space Shuttle To Planet Z. Ida B was scared at first but once she started to read she felt like she was no longer in side the class room and it made her more comfortable. This change was important because now Ida B is close to being her normal self.

Another main thing that happened today was that Ida's heart started to change back but it never did. Ida actually talked in front of the class and looked at her mom and Dad.

12/4/08 I Had Trouble In Getting To Solla Sollew
The so what in Solla Sollew was that Dr. Seuss was trying to get out that there are troubles every where you go. And that no matter how hard you try to get away from trouble they always seem to find you. The main point of the story is to show how a little creature was trying to ecsape his troubles and he just found himself in more trouble. Like when he was on his way to Solla Sollow he found himself having to pull a camel and the camels owner.

Today in my book Ida found out that her mother had cancer. Her dad told her that she had to go back to school. Ida's heart turned into a hard black stone and now she can't cry or show her true feelings. Ida also found out that her dad sold parts of the orchid. The parts that he sold are the parts with her favorite tree friends. Ida's mom is now taking better medicine so she wont get as sick. Ida's dad also got rid of LuLu.

The best part in my book was when FirePaw ( Rusty) got in a fight with LongTail. This is the best part in my book so far because it shows the real courage lying inside FirePaw. I think FirePaw surprised LongTail which is very awkward. This is akward becaues LongTail is well trained Warrior.
When FirePaw attacked LongTail you could feel the thrill that FirePaw was having. You could also feel how weird LongTail felt. I could feel the excitement in all of the other cats. FirePaw was very proud of what he did. BlueStar was in shock of how FirePaw stood up against LongTail.

1. Rusty is now part of the ThunderClan.
2. Rusty's new name is Firepaw.
3. Three warriors went to battle with the RiverClan.
4. RavenPaw came back to the Clan with a cut on his paw.
5. RedTail died in the fight with the RiverClan.
6.Firepaw (Rusty) got in a fight with LongTail.
7.FirePaw (Rusty) is now really good friends with GrayPaw.
So far my book is really good it has a bunch of names though but still it is really good.

Today I finished Granny Torrelli Makes Soup And Started Warriors.
I predict that Rusty will get in to many fights with the other Clans. I also think that Rusty will not have the Warrior blood to become a warrior in the ThunderClan. But I am only on page 30. Rusty is just a kittypet who has lived in a Twoleg place his whole life and has never steped
foot off of his graden post. That is why I don't think Rusty would make a very good Warrior.

Rosie and Bailey are to very close friends. When Bailey got his first Braille book Rosie wanted one really bad. She asked her mom over and over for one but she never got one.
